When will I receive my embosser proof & embosser?
(1) We will email a proof to you within 24 hours of your order (during business days Mon-Fri). This proof is for you to review everything (copy, layout, specifications) and approve or make changes. If you make any changes, we will email another proof for your approval. You must approve this proof before we will start production on your embosser.
(2) Once we receive your approval on the proof, production time is 3-5 business days (or 5-10 days for ELR embossers).
(3) The embosser approval/production process cannot be rushed. If you want your embosser as fast as possible, Overnight Shipping is available.

Once I see the proof, what if I don't like it? Can I make changes or cancel my order?
If you don't like your layout once you see the proof, don't worry, you're not stuck with it. We're happy to make changes and will email a new proof to you. We will provide up to 3 complimentary proofs if necessary. More than 3 proofs will incur a small fee (to be approved by you first).
If you ultimately don't like any of the complimentary proofs, you can always cancel your order without penalty (as long as it's before you approve anything). |

Why do I need to choose an 'Orientation' for the embosser and/or extra plates? I don't understand what that means.
The embosser plates do not rotate, so we need to know how to orient your artwork so it appears right-side-up based on where on the paper you want to emboss.
Example: If you choose bottom orientation, you will be able to emboss anywhere along the bottom edge of the paper. If you try to emboss the top edge of the paper, your artwork will appear upside down.
Choose Bottom orientation for use on envelope flaps.

How large of an area can I emboss?
We use various embosser plates based on what best fits your layout choice - 1- 5/8" circular, 2" circular, or 1" x 2" rectangular. We will note the size on your proof. Many times we will show various sizes on your proof.
All plate sizes (except Extra-Long-Reach) are interchangeable with our desktop or handheld embossers. Layouts/artwork can be sized as small/large on the plates as you prefer, however we must leave some blank space around the entire edge of the plate. If you want a specific size design or plate, please let us know.
Extra-Long-Reach Embossers use 2" circular plates, and they are not interchangeable with our desktop or handheld embossers. If you want an extra plate for your ELR embosser, you must order an ELR extra plate.

What is the maximum amount of characters I can use on my layout?
It varies depending on the layout/font you choose and if we need to use a rectangular or circular plate. Generally we suggest a maximum of 20-22 characters per straight line. We will offer suggestions on your proof if the text is too small.
Will my layout fit onto my envelope flap?
Our embosser plates (1-5/8" circular, 2" circular, or 1" x 2" rectangular) should work on most stationery envelopes. Keep in mind that business envelopes and some stationery envelopes have very small flaps, so layouts that only fit onto our 2" circular plate may be too large. If you need to emboss a very small flap, you should choose a layout that fits on our 1" x 2" rectangular plate (Layout #3, Layout #2 with a small image and only 2 lines of text, or Layout #9 with only 2 lines of text).
Can I order an extra plate to use with another embosser?
If your embosser is an 'Ideal Model M' desktop or handheld embosser or another compatible brand, then our regular embosser plates should fit. We can only guarantee that our embosser plates will fit with the embossers that we sell. Therefore, we recommend that you only purchase extra embosser plates if you already own our embosser. |
What type of paper can I emboss?
Our embosser is only guaranteed to work on standard 24# paper, which is the weight of standard computer paper, letterhead, and envelopes. Very nice quality paper or envelopes might be heavier than 24#.
Many designs also produce good impressions on light-weight to medium-weight cardstock. We do not recommend embossing anything heavier than 80# cardstock.
The designs that work best on heavier paper are simple designs without a lot of text. Detailed designs or designs with a lot of text usually produce light or uneven impressions on heavier paper.

Will I get the same results from this embosser as I would from professional embossing from a printer?
Our embossers produce great results, however they aren't perfect and should not be compared to professional embossing. Personal embossers are very simple machines designed to produce nice hand-embossed impressions for an inexpensive price. They work simply by forcing a raised image into paper using minimal pressure from a small embossing press. This technique, however, can sometimes result in slightly uneven impressions, small punch-throughs, or crinkling in the paper. This is normal and not a flaw with the embosser or plate...just one of its little quirks! Each embosser is tested prior to shipping to make sure that it's producing a good impression.

Can I get a sample of what an embossed image looks like? What about on my own paper?
Yes. If you would like to receive a sample, please contact us and we'll mail one to you. You can also mail your own paper to us if you're concerned about using our embosser on a specific type of paper. Please keep in mind that all designs/images/typestyles turn out different. The specific layout we show to you as a sample might have a slightly different result than the one you choose.

The paper/sticker crinkles when I emboss. How can I keep that from happening?
Depending on your design, you may find that the paper/sticker crinkles when embossed. To minimize, place an extra sheet of paper underneath and emboss both together.
How far does the embosser reach from the edge of the paper?
Desktop embossers reach up to 1.75" from the edge of the paper to the center of the embossed image.
Handheld embossers reach up to 1.5" from the edge of the paper to the center of the embossed image.
Extra-Long-Reach (ELR) embossers reach up to 4.25" from the edge of the paper to the center of the embossed image. This will reach the center of an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper if you choose Right or Left orientation. |

Tips & Troubleshooting
BEFORE EACH IMPRESSION, CHECK TO MAKE SURE THE EMBOSSER PLATE IS SECURELY ATTACHED WITHIN THE EMBOSSER. If the plate is NOT securely attached, pressing hard on the embosser handle can BEND & MISALIGN the plate, causing it to no longer produce a good impression.
PRACTICE on scrap paper first. You should feel comfortable determining the amount of pressure needed to make a good impression before you emboss one of your good books or expensive stationery. You should also practice aligning the embosser so your layout appears straight (this is easy with the rectangular plates and a little harder with the circular plates).
Uneven Impressions: They may occur for a few reasons - (a) the embosser plate is not securely attached to the embosser, (b) the paper is too heavy, (c) you are not applying enough pressure when embossing...try standing while embossing to get better leverage.
